Tottenham Hotspur Youth Update - April 2017

U-18 League

Spurs' first game of the month was an away game at Middlesborough on the 1st. This turned out to be another one sided game with Spurs on top for most of the 90 minutes. Duncan released Sterling for the opening goal with a cute ball around the corner and scored the second himself with a low drive from the edge of the area. A third goal came from a corner that was turned into his own goal by a defender. With Spurs looking to see out the game in the second half the home side had a few chances scoring from a free kick but Spurs had an easy 3-1 win.

Spurs' second match was a home game with Norwich City the visitors on the 8th. Spurs won this game 3-2 to go top of the group. The opening goal came when Patterson found Shashoua with a free kick. The wideman got behind the defence to play in Griffiths at the far post. Griffiths got his and Spurs second when he reacted quickest to Shashoua's effort being saved. Norwich got one back within a minute. Austin made a good save to keep Spurs ahead at the break. Griffiths completed his hat trick after the hour mark when played in by Maghoma. Norwich pulled another goal back from the penalty spot. Role had a goal ruled out and as Spurs saw out the game.

After Easter, Spurs' third game was at home against Fulham on the 29th. After a poor start Spurs continued their good form taking a 2-0 lead by halftime. The opening goal was scored by Roles who played the ball out to Sterling and got into the area for the return scoring at the near post. Shashoua got the second coming in from the right driving in across the keeper. Fulham got a goal back in the second half from the penalty spot before Shashoua got his second playing a one two with Roles . Minutes later it was four as Skipp played in Bennetts to finish low in the far corner. Lock released Bennetts on the left and his cross was converted by Sterling before Fulham got a second. A last ditch tackle by Marsh prevented them getting another, allowing Spurs to run out 5-2 winners.

Spurs ended the month in second place in group 2.

Premier League 2

The opening game of the month was a trip to league leaders Everton on the 10th. This was a very tight game with few chances as both sides played passing football. Only one save by either keeper in the first half when Tracey was played in. In the second half Everton took the lead and then they scored two good goals curling the ball round Glover into top corner. In between Sterling had pulled one back heading in a deflected ball from Edwards. Everton made it 4-1 when Glover gave the ball away and left an empty net. As Spurs had three attempts saved and another cleared off the line it was a close game. Everton are a point from being crowned champions of the first U-23 league.

Due to the death of Ugo Ehiogu the game against Manchester United was postponed.

Spurs finished the month in seventh place.
