Tottenham Hotspur Youth Update - January 2017

U-18 League

The first two games of the month were moved to allow for the Youth Cup game at QPR and the game at Arsenal was postponed so the only game of the month was away to Chelsea on the 28th. Chelsea took an early lead and doubled that before half time when the scored from a free kick with the ball going under the wall. They added a third on 50 minutes before Spurs staged a rally towards the end. From Shashoua's cross Griffiths hit the crossbar and reacted quickest to net from the rebound. In the 87th minute Skipp played in Oakley-Boothe to get a second to finish 3-2.

Team(4-1-4-1) – Austin, Eyoma, Dinzeyi, Tangana, Tsaroulla, Marsh(C)(Skipp 77), Shashoua, Duncan, Oakley-Boothe, Bennetts(Hinds 71), Sterling(Griffiths 58).

FA Youth Cup

On the 10th, Spurs went to QPR for a fourth round tie which was a comfortable 4-1 win as Spurs dominated from start to finish. It took they a while to break through when Sterling played in Roles for the opener. The second was well worked with Duncan playing in Sterling to cross for Griffiths to score at the far post. They gave a stupid goal away before the break but scored 23 seconds into the second half when Shashoua played in Roles for his second. The fourth was a rare goal from Marsh heading in a loose ball. It could have been another nine-goal feast like the previous round but for good defending by the home side. Next up Norwich in the fifth round.

Team(4-1-4-1) – Austin, Eyoma, Dinzeyi, Tanganga, Tsaroulla, Marsh(C), Shashoua, Roles(Reynolds 82), Duncan(Oakley-Boothe 67), Griffiths(Bennetts 74), Sterling.

Scorers – Roles 24, 46, Griffiths 37, Marsh 73.

Premier League 2

Spurs' first game of 2017 was a home game against high flying Chelsea at Hotspur Way on the 6th. This was an evenly fought game with both sides looking to get forward with the midfield canceling each other out for most of the game. Chelsea took the lead from a free kick which was not cancelled out until after 40 minutes as Oduwa dominated the left side having a penalty turned down winning free kicks. Oduwa crossed for Harrison to head home. Chelsea again took the lead early in the second half but were pegged back again when Ogilvie headed home a corner at the near post. Both sides had periods of pressure but 2-2 was a fair result.

Team(4-4-2) – Lopez, Walker-Peters, Maghoma, Walkes, Ogilvie(Muscatt 78), Pritchard(Owens 63), Amos(C), Stylianides, Oduwa(Goddard 84), Tracey, Harrison.

Unused Subs. - Glover.

Scorers – Harrison 39, Ogilvie 58.

The second game was away to Manchester City on the 13th at their Academy Stadium. Against another top side Spurs matched them to come away with a point. Neither side scored in an open first half which saw Spurs go close hitting the post, but a mistake early in the second let the home side in to score with Glover making an initial save. They increased their lead with a well taken second before Spurs stepped up making changes and moving to 4-1-4-1. A good run by Muscatt saw Tracey cross for Oduwa score at the far post. With five minutes to go Oduwa got to the line and his cross was bundled in by Tracey.

Team(4-2-3-1) – Glover, Walker-Peters, Maghoma, Walkes, Ogilvie, Amos(C), Owens(Muscatt 65), Pritchard(Stylianides 65), Harrison, Oduwa, Tracey.

Unused Subs. - McDermott, Goddard.

Scorers – Oduwa 76, Tracey 85.

Booked – Walker-Peters 90+4

The last game of the month saw Southampton visit Stevenage on the 30th and surrendered the points in a dominating performance by Spurs in the first half which saw them score three times. Oduwa got the first with a thumping drive running onto a return by Miller. Oduwa got to the line for the second whipping in a cross that was put in by a defender. Oduwa then provided the pass for the third for Tracey. Spurs eased up in the second half allowing Southampton to get out of their own half which saw them win a penalty. Glover saved the kick but not the follow up as the game finished 3-1. Interesting point was the players out on loan who played in this game - Lesniak(Slovan Liberec), Miller(Burton Albion), Amos(Southend) and Loft(Stevenage)

Team(4-2-2-2) – Glover, Walker-Peters, Maghoma, Lesniak, Muscatt, Amos(C), Pritchard(Stylianides 60), Miller(Goddard 73), Oduwa, Loft, Tracey.

Unused Subs. - McDermott, Brown, Lock.

Scorers – Oduwa 27, o.g. 30, Tracey 45+1.

Booked - Amos 78.

Spurs finished the month in eighth place.
