Tottenham Hotspur Youth Update - August 2016
U-18 League
Spurs' opening game of the new season saw them beat Southampton 4-1 at home on the 13th. Shashoua started the ball rolling, scoring from the spot after Griffiths was fouled in the area. Roles got the second before half-time when the keeper failed to hold his long-range drive. Griffiths got the third when played in by Bennetts. The Saints pulled one back but in the last minute Oakley-Boothe fired home after a one-two with Griffiths.

Spurs' second game of the month was away to West Ham on the 20th. The hammers took the points with a goal in the first half in a game that they dominated in at the start but had to hang on as Spurs finished the stronger. West Ham also hit the post twice and had a penalty saved. Griffiths had a couple of efforts cleared off the line, the first of which he should have put away.

Spurs' last game of the month was at home to Aston Villa on the 27th. A goal fest in the first half was followed by a tight second saw Spurs win 5-1 with all the goals coming in the first period. It took them just 5 minutes to take the lead when Duncan played in Roles. Brown then conceded a penalty to Villa but Austin saved his blushes diving to his right. Spurs increased their lead when a free kick by Shashoua came out to Bennetts and his effort was blocked but fell kindly for Oteh to finish. It was 3-0 less than a minute later when right back Hinds made a run before passing to Shashoua who played in the other full-back Brown to score. Austin was booked giving away another penalty from which Villa scored. Shashoua put in the cross for Duncan to make it four and just before the break Oteh converted Bennetts cross for 5-1. The second half was much tighter with Oteh having his effort from the edge of the area saved preventing his hattrick.

Spurs finished the month in second place a point behind leaders Arsenal.
Premier League 2
Spurs began with a home game against Everton at Stevenage on the 15th. It proved a tight game with few chances take saw the visitors score two late goals to win it. It was hard as Spurs had a penalty in the first half when Walkes was fouled but Harrison hit the spot kick down the middle with the keeper not moving out of the way. Both sides had balls cleared off the line before Spurs overcommitted at a late corner. They lost possession and Everton broke away to score the opener. Another break saw them get a second despite Glover making a good reaction save.

Spurs' second match was away to Reading at Hogwood Park on the 22nd. After a period of pressure at the start, Spurs began to get their game together with Edwards putting them in front and Amos hitting the bar. The game was about over six minutes after the restart as Spurs plundered three goals. Edwards got his second from the edge of the area before Oduwa broke down the left to feed Miller arriving late in the area to finish. Having already blocked him once Harrison robbed the keeper to net the fourth. A late goal for Reading gave a final scoreline of 4-1.

Spurs' last match of August was on Friday 26th at Derby County. They started well dominating the rams, winning a penalty when Oduwa was fouled. Harrison made no mistake this time, sending the keeper the wrong way. It all changed when Amos made a mistake to let in Derby for a goal. This gave the home side the belief that they were as good as Spurs. They had the better of the game from then on. Spurs went back in front in the second half when Harrison got down the right and crossed. A defender got to the ball first but played it against the near post and Walker-Peters following up drove it into the far corner. Spurs held out to the final whistle for their second win in a week.
