Norwich City 0-3 Tottenham Hotspur: Match Report

We finally come back to Premier League football having won 4 of our last 5 & only 2 points off City and Arsenal. We’re playing a team, that for all intents and purposes, is a relegation favorite & we’re missing our rock at the back in Jan Vertonghen. Any other year and we lose this one 3-0, but for whatever reason I feel good about this one. Son replaces Lamela to give us a bit more rotation around the front.

Right off the bat, Alli taps in for his 7th of the year. Yep, right away, 2 minutes in…Alli edges out Bassong to collect a tap in and overtake Jack Wilshere in all-time premier league goals at 19 years of age. Now 6 goals and 5 assists in his last 13 premier league games (Thanks statman!). We’re watching a superstar develop right in our f***ing faces and it is magical! From that point forward we just decimated Norwich. Hammered their backline, and just swarming around them. Highlighted by the movement of Eriksen, which saw him touch the ball virtually everywhere on the pitch, we shuffled our attackers around with fluidity which cultivated opportunities and SOMETHING. Harry Kane was virtually unplayable all half and while Wimmer was a bit shaky, giving away some needless freekicks, our backline stayed solid. Mbokani with Norwich’s best chance of the half which was saved well by Hugo, and some great individual defending by Walker kept us up 1-0. Alli, always the magician, won us a penalty that Kane stepped up and made no mistake from. Harry now has 13 goals in his last 15 Premier League appearances and is only 7 goals off his total from last year…and its only February 2nd. One season wonder!! The rest of the half played out with essentially acres of space on the left flank being exploited and a few close calls at increasing our lead but nothing hits the back of the net and we go into the break up 2-0, making us all question whether we really have it in us this year. If results stand at the point in which I’m writing this (we win, and arsenal draws or ties), we are officially above Arsenal in the table, at 3rd & even on points.

Alli comes off at half-time for Chadli, for some reason (fingers crossed), and we continue just the way we played in the first half. With a little less malice and pace than previously, we kept pushing forward and cutting out opportunities for Norwich to hit us back. Harry Kane pulled a shot wide, and moments later some weird nonsense from a freekick saw Bassong offsidedly score a goal, which was immediately called off, thank god. At this point I saw word on twitter that Alli was feeling “under the weather” which makes his goal and penalty win even more impressive. What cant this kid do?! We begin to settle the half down having cut it a little too close for comfort and start patiently passing around, to cool down the Canary’s energy and see through this half without overstepping chances. Son Heung-Min replaced by Carroll, who scored against Norwich last time out, and the game continues at a very patient pace. No one overextending themselves in fear of giving up a goal, and while Norwich more desperate to get forward they’re doing so in limited numbers and our backline is doing a good job at dealing with them. Harry Kane on a breakaway and hits the post for a second time tonight and just…why? Calm play, with Mbokani laying on his back for 40 minutes, and then Eriksen brilliantly dispossessing and somehow putting a ball into Kane on a breakaway in the SAME TOUCH?? and Kane makes no mistake this time and fires it home without any pressure. 15th of the season for the one season wonder and he still isn’t our mot impressive youngster this year. 3-0 to the Spurs, 2 from Kane & a goal and penalty win from Alli. Eriksen impressive as well and Hugo sees the game through to another clean sheet, ensuring our record as best defence in the league remains intact.

Final score of 3-0 with a very convincing win, which puts us into 3rd! Above arsenal! There’s something going on over at N17 (can I still call it that?) and we really somehow look like the real deal? Somehow Pochettino has taken this side of small children and turned them into a title threat. Unfortunately…Leicester exists and is stealing our magical season thunder but alas, we’ll see how the cards fall at the end of the year. A very composed win against a team we should have won against. Lots of great movement in the first half and then just a solid full-team defensive performance to take the sting out of Norwich in the second. COYS!
